Abusive father

I’ve gotten into the habit of watching whatever my brother is watching on tv, dvd/vcd or YouTube. My reason is two-fold: I get to watch whatever he’s watching plus I get to monitor if what he’s watching is appropriate or not. Meaning, I act as his personal censors board.

He watches Pinoy Big Brother daily. He’s gotten into the habit of watching the noon time streaming, the 5pm update Uber and the primetime PBB show. I’ve noticed this father who is verbally abusive not just to his son but also to other people in the Big Brother house. The father I am talking about is John, Kevin’s father. He hails from Spain and is here, admittedly, to seek funds for his son’s equestrian dreams.

I saw an episode a couple of days ago wherein he is bullying his son into having a circumcision. Big Brother made a deal with the father that if Kevin acquiesces to a circumcision, 100 other kids will be given free circumcision as well. Kevin was really angry with his father because:

*he couldn’t believe that his father would tell other people that he was not yet circumcised
*John, the father, was bullying his son into undergoing circumcision when Kevin does not want to change whatever in his body
*John was swearing at his son and calling him names the whole time they were arguing

What I found extremely alarming with that scenario was that Big Brother did not put a stop to the father’s bullying. No, let me correct that. It was not just bullying. It was already verbal abuse!

And you know what, the abuse never stops. I saw a teaser shown this afternoon while we were watching Uber. John is in his verbal abusive mode again and this time, the teener Josef and his aunt are the targets. The nerve of the guy! Watch the episode tonight and see for yourselves.

I do believe PBB should do something about this guy. They are sending wrong signals to everyone watching the show. Is abuse a form of entertainment nowadays? Is that it? Are they letting John go un-reprimanded because his abuses will draw a guaranteed audience?

Preposterous! Something should be done to this abusive father and pronto!

*grr

Litratong Pinoy - Hugis ay pahaba

Ang hugis ng pansit at chopsticks ay pahaba. Sa totoo lang, napakahilig ko sa pansit. Kahit yan lang ang pagkain ko sa araw-araw, okay na! Hehe

O tara, kain na! =)

Maligayang Huwebes!

A prayer

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace,
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
where there is sadness, joy;

O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
to be understood as to understand;
to be loved as to love.

For it is in giving that we receive;
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

Happy Monday everyone! Have a blessed week ahead!

Blog Talkers Talk #1

Annoyed. What annoys you? What do you do that annoys other people? Are you quick to lose your temper? How often do you get annoyed? Do you have a short fuse? Tell us about the last time you were annoyed - REALLY annoyed.

If it is humid/hot and I am tired, thirsty or hungry, I get annoyed. When I am annoyed, I snap at everyone and that annoys other people, I know. But you know what, I don’t really get annoyed that much. It will take a really lousy day to stretch my patience. When I was younger, it would be easy to annoy me. Just talk unceasingly and in a loud voice, you’d surely get me annoyed and fast! I think maturity brought on additional patience to me.

The last time I got annoyed was when I picked up a package sent to me by a friend in Germany. The package contains a digital camera and I got really annoyed because the postal personnel tossed the package onto the table in front of me. I gave the personnel a piece of my mind and demanded that I talk to the in-charge. They apologized and when I’d taken out the digicam, my annoyance went away ;)

Disagreements

What will you do if you were witness to a heated argument between your aunt and uncle?

  • Will you pretend you are not hearing it, and just wait for it to end?
  • Will you tell them to calm down and talk about their problems in private, and in a proper manner?
  • Will you just look the other way and listen to every word of their argument?

I did the first one *no

You see, yesterday, we went to my Uncle W1’s place. He is my dad’s older brother. We were aboard the vehicle being driven by Uncle D. My Aunt WJ, Uncle D’s wife, was seated beside him. At first, I thought, they were just talking about something. I was not listening because I was talking to my sister and a cousin. And then, we all heard at the back that they were already bickering. It turned into a full blown shouting match at one point. Due to anger, Uncle D almost slammed the vehicle onto another car! It was totally disconcerting, to tell you honestly. I had mixed emotions when it happened. I was angry at Uncle D because we almost had an accident. I was laughing a bit because my sister fell on her seat. I was scared because he’s still driving and might hit a car for real.

But instead of voicing out my opinion, which is for them to take their disagreements in the privacy of their own home, I opted to remain silent and uttered a prayer for them.

They’ve been arguing for a few days now, I’ve heard from my cousin. It’s a family matter and I know I am not in a position to dole out advices. And also, I am not yet married so they might say what do I know about their marital fight. But it still is very disconcerting.

If you are in my situation, what would you do?

Magandang araw ng Huwebes sa inyong lahat!

Coming from a large family

When you come from a big family, it becomes imperative that you stay strong. Otherwise, you will be eaten alive by your stronger siblings. I know that for a fact because my dad came from a big family. A couple of friends of mine also came from big families. I, myself, comes from a big family.

No, the eating does not mean you will be maltreated. It’s just a figure of speech. Let me give you an example. There is a tumbler of fried chicken from KFC. You want the thigh part, the largest one. Of course, all your other siblings want the same. Now, if you really want to get the largest thigh part, then you need to be able to grab it first.

Course, this does not happen everyday. Most of the time, it is fun being a part of a large brood. But there are days…

Yes, there are days when chaos reigns in the house. Yes, there are days you are wishing for the miracle of peace and quiet. And there are also days, like today, wherein you get so emotional you just want to sulk in a corner and get over your emo moment without a sibling interrupting you.

Ahh… the joys and pains of coming from a big family.
